Camping with Pets

 Camping with Pets
No one can resist the big brown eyes of "Man's Best Friend", so of course we treat them like our children and take them everywhere with us! Traveling with pets and get complicated if you don't prepare right! Below are a few hints and tips of things you will need for your pets on your camping adventures!

 Pet Safety Kit
Before  you go anywhere with your pets, make sure you packed a "Pet Safety Kit"! Just like children, animals love to run and play, and an accident could happen at any time! Always be prepared! Many times these kits can be purchased at large pet stores, such as Pet Smart. These kits are equipped  with special medical supplies that will come in handy in case of an emergency.

 Always Bring Water
Make sure that you always have water on hand to give to your pet! Dogs need a lot of water, especially in the hot summer sun when they are running around! A small collapsible dish works great for in the car or out on a hike. These can be purchased at most pet stores or places like Wal-Mart. Don't let your dog be  dehydrated! They are counting on you to provide!
Retractable Pet Cable
When your pet is in a strange area away from home, you always want to make sure they are tied or highly supervised. The retractable pet cable is great for when you're either cooking or not able to watch your pet! Don't ever leave your dog alone in an area they are not use to!
Spray for Fleas and Tick Repellent
Before going out into the woods or even tall grass make sure your dog is sprayed with flea and tick repellent! Although, you may think you are in a safe area, fleas and ticks can be anywhere! Be sure to check your dog daily, because ticks can be deadly. It is always helpful to put a flea collar on your dog to help prevent the fleas from biting around the neck area.
 Glow In the Dark Collar
If you are spending your evenings and nights around the camp fire,
make sure that you have a glow in the dark collar around your furry friend's neck! If you have a dark colored dog, the bright collar will do wonders if they wander off!

Your dog may only be apart of your life for a few years, but to them you are their whole life! So, travel with your best friend, but always take extra precaution when taking them outside their home territory!

Meals that Allow You to Plan Ahead for Your Trip!

Every camper knows how hard it can be planning quick fulfilling meals to make in a camper/RV. With these food tip (every camper should know about) you can cut down on space in your fridge and on your counters! These meals will also give you more time to spend with your friends and family!

  Salad in a Jar
This might seem odd to some people, but this is a great way to prepare a quick meal before you hit the road! Your salads can be made up to 5 days before you're ready to eat them!
Here are some suggestions to get your salad started:
  • Mason Jar with Lid - Glass/Plastic - (number depending on how many salads you would like to serve)
  • Lettuce/Spinach
  • Carrots - Cut to your preference
  • Tomatoes - Preferably Cherry Tomatoes
  • Cheese - Preferably shredded / Flavor of your choice
  • Mushrooms - Preferably sliced
  • Croutons - Size of your choice
  • Raisins - Dried Cranberries can also be used
  • Dressing - Flavor of your choice / *Can be put at bottom of Mason Jar, but do not let it touch the lettuce! You may also put it in another container other than the Mason Jar
Do not forget to keep your salads in the refrigerator! Seal the lid tight and save it for a quick meal! Make your meal 5 days ahead of  time and give yourself time to pack! Salad in a Jar is the perfect meal for your outdoor adventure!

Frozen Marinated Meat
Everyone loves to eat a marinated meal over the grill! This is an easy way to have a prepared meal ready to throw on the grill! Here's what you'll need:
  • Ziploc Bags - Size of your preference
  • Meat - Kind of your preference
  • Marinade - Flavor of your preference
  • Freezer - In Home/Camper
Marinade the raw meat over night in a refrigerator. The next day you will need to put  the marinated meat into the Ziploc bag and seal it tightly. Once you have done that, put it in the freezer until you're ready to throw it on the grill at your campsite!

Frozen Pancake Batter
Not sure what to make for breakfast every morning in the camper? Well here's a simple plan ahead idea, Frozen Pancake Batter! Things you will need:
  • Pancake Batter - Brand of your preference
  • Large Ziploc Bags
  • Clips - This will keep the bags sealed tight
  • Freezer - In Homer/Camper
  • Scissors - This will cut the back
Once you make the pancake batter, pour it into the Ziploc bag. Place the clip on the end tightly and put it in the freezer. Once you are ready to make breakfast, let it thaw out and cut the tip of the bag, then you're ready to start serving a quick breakfast!
